Safari, Acid and the iPhone

2009 Iphone

Safari has had a successful run at winning the Acid 2 race as well as winning Acid 3, so it comes as a bit of a surprise to note that the iPhone, which is also based on WebKit, passes neither of them.

Whilst the Acid 3 compliance has gone up from OS 2.2 (with a 73% pass rate) to OS 3.0 (with a 97% pass rate), it’s a little unclear why the same isn’t also true of the desktop-based WebKit, which easily gets 100% in the recent 4.0 builds, upon which the iPhone WebKit is based.
